Aberdeen reports on New Fleet Mobility Strategies. The Aberdeen Group recently issued a report based on an extensive survey of transportation fleets including private fleet operators, commercial transportation carriers, logistics service providers, and field service organizations.  The report addresses the importance of mobile computing in transportation. Aberdeen outlines five critical actions enterprise fleets operators should consider when implementing mobile technology, and 5 top pressures driving firms to improve fleet mobility:

Eagle Intermodal will deploy KonaWare.
Eagle Intermodal Services, the Intermodal operating unit of Eagle Systems, will implement the KonaWare Transport application in order to streamline their dispatching operations by making use of wireless data communications between drivers and dispatchers. More importantly, the Aberdeen study reveals that fleets are rapidly embracing mobile computing, and that many view mobility as a competitive advantage (43%), or a competitive necessity (29%). Aberdeen identifies the 4 major fleet mobility areas as basic driver communications, value-added information collection, automatic vehicle location, and vehicle sensors.  80% of study participants have current, budgeted projects for improvements across two or more of these areas. Other key findings are that 68% of respondents plan to use RFID technology in their fleets, more than 70% of mobility users have achieved ROI goals, and that many operators are using mobility to enable new value-added services and information to differentiate their services.
